Rhythm games

Today our question comes form Josh in Minnesota. Josh ask's "What is your opinion on the sudden influx of rhythm games?" Well Josh, I know Dan doesn't play many rhythm games but he does enjoy the occasion jam session on guitar hero III. Not sure what he'll have to say on this subject, but Take it away Dan!

Dan- I think it's great. With games like Beatmania, Guitar Hero, Rockband, and Tyko Drummaster, it really gives a lot of options for people of all ages to enjoy. This type of game also gets a lot of positive media attention for us gamers, which helps overshadow things like the stereotypical Grand-Theft-Auto-makes-kid's-want-to-kill-people crap that gamers have to hear from over protective parents. I really appreciate the depth of songs that some of these games deliver, I think a lot of younger gamers get to hear some pretty cool older songs that they wouldn't know of otherwise. There has even been a huge bump in I-Tunes music downloads that corresponds with a lot of the guitar based games. These games are great for parties too. Jamming out while pounding a few beers is a great diversion from your typical card game of Presidents and Assholes. Nothing beats seeing an older person attempting this and watching them loosen up as they get better at the game. Some of the older people really get into it!! Anyways, Rhythm games remind me of the potential of systems like the Wii. They're some things anyone can enjoy in a lot of situations and as long as the games stay fresh I think we will see some really cool stuff coming out for the next few years,

Just for you Dan!

Gears of War 2

Our first question comes from me, obviously we currently have no followers and thus no one to ask any questions. So this week I, Jon, decided to ask about Gears of War 2. So Dan, with the problems in online multi player (Which are pretty serious judging by the screams coming from the basement) on GoW2 what keeps you coming back?

Dan- "It's definitely the people! No other game demands that you rely on a team of people as this game does. When you get that laggy host that you cannot fight one on one, you need to gang up and beat him down. The biggest problem I have with this game is that we don't get clear communication from Epic on what the reason for the terrible lag is. After three updates I still have problems. How come I can jump into a game of Call of Duty 4 and not have any problems when there are 18 players? Then I get into Gears 2 and there are ten people with major problems. This doesn't seem like it should be happening and I wish we knew why this is so hard to fix. I keep going back because when the game is on, there is nothing as good as this for team based multi player. I love picking up the sniper rifle and hitting the guy across the map as he's going to two piece one of my team in the back. Also when it comes down to one on one and the whole team's watching and cheering you on there doesn't seem to be a more exciting moment in gaming!

Welcome!

Welcome to Ask Dan About Games! Here you can ask Dan for advice on gaming. I am Jon, Dan's figurative web guy (Basically he was too lazy to set up the blog and advertise it and get it started so here I am.) I may field some questions but for the most part Dan will be answering your questions. Ask him about any game from Atari to Playstation 3, from questions abour defeating a boss to questions about what the best strategy is. We will answer one question a week, or sometimes if it's been a slow week we will answer several. Mainly it depends on how we feel. Just ask your question in the comments and we will choose the best for the next week. Thanks and Enjoy!
